Pro Options
complete set of solutions to meet the needs of professional clients
Pro Resolution
If you are looking to get the absolute best resolution from images taken with your professional equipment on high end films or printed on high quality paper then our PRO Resolution package is for you. 4000dpi for negatives and slides and 1200dpi for prints is the highest resolution we offer. Any higher would just capture granularity of the media in most applications, and that’s information you don’t want scanned.
Individual Image Custom Naming
Many professionals have highly organized collections where each image is already categorized by name. In most cases, ScanCafe can work with you to maintain your file naming scheme or categorization sequence, even to the point of naming each image file according to your specifications! Contact us to discuss how we can develop a custom file naming strategy to fit your needs.
Note: Our standard pricing includes custom folder naming according to your specifications. For example, if you send in 3 packs of photos individually wrapped and with the words “wedding”, “honeymoon”, “anniversary” written on them you will receive a DVD from us with three separate file folders named accordingly. Within those file folders ScanCafe will apply our standard sequential image file naming scheme that we have developed to ensure we fully account for all of your images.
Pro Library
ScanCafe’s Pro Library option gives you two complete sets of images. The first set is in compressed JPG file format with full image processing applied (crop, dust / scratch removal, color correction). The second set consists of the “raw” scan with no image processing applied and in a “lossless” TIFF file format. The JPG fully processed images are useful in 90% of professional applications for reprint or use on-line. The TIFF files are essential when full resolution is needed for poster size images, color space is critical, or a non-processed image is required by professional printers. Many of our museum, art gallery, photography and other professional clients find our Pro Library Option a great solution. Every so often one of our clients comes across a hidden “gem” they didn’t know they had. When they do, it’s important for them to have the absolute highest possible resolution image for them to work with. Sort of a “blank canvas” from which to apply professional processing as they see fit.
USB drive
We offer external self powered USB hard drives as an optional way to receive image files for our pros who use TIFF file formats or for any customer that has an exceptionally large number of images. Many of our professional customers find managing one single hard drive much more convenient than handling multiple DVDs or CDs.
We currently supply Western Digital “Passport” portable drives. These drives are simple to use, light and easy to carry, and require no power adapter (power supplied by the USB cable).
TIFF Format
We only recommend TIFF format for the professional photographer or hobbyist. TIFF file formats are “lossless” with no compression and are enormous in size. A typical slide scanned at 3000 dpi saved in TIFF format would be about 70 MB in size (vs. about 5 MB for a similar JPG). A few hundred pictures would quickly fill up a normal sized hard drive. So unless you have a specific need for a TIFF file format we highly recommend you stick with the standard JPG format that offers the best combination of resolution vs. file size.
Extra Options
Additional Disk set
Why not have extra copies of your images to send to family members or friends? Don’t have a CD or DVD writer at home? The best time to get your duplicate disk set is when you place your order. We only keep your images on our hard drives until we know you’ve received them and can properly access them. It’s a small price compared to the value of those precious memories.
Slides in carousels / Photos in album
The bulky / heavy nature of slide carousels and photo albums makes them very inefficient to ship by air and they are difficult to handle and manage by our staff. We recommend you remove slides from the carousels and the prints from the albums prior to shipping. If you do not to go through this process, we need to charge you a handling surcharge per carrousel and photo album. This charge covers the additional labor involved in removing the media for scanning and then replacing them when scanning is complete.
