What Discs & Cards
Can We Digitize?

From old floppy disks to SD cards, we extract the photos and files from these storage formats. Select a format to learn more about its history and how we digitize it.

Floppy Disks

The 3.5-inch floppy disk was released in the 1980s and held about 1.4MB. For comparison, a magnetic storage system from the 1950s held 5MB and weighed over 2,000 pounds.

Floppy disks are now obsolete, and most modern computers have no floppy drive to read them. Send them to us, and we'll extract your files for you. You don't need any special equipment.

CDs

Sony and Philips brought the compact disc to consumers in the 1980s, and it held about 800MB of audio and data. Over the years it came in many forms, including write-once and rewritable discs, Video CD, Super Video CD, Photo CD, Picture CD, CD-i and Enhanced Music CD.

Many CDs hold photos, documents and memories that are hard to reach now that computers have stopped including disc drives. We extract the files for you.

DVDs

The DVD was developed in 1995 and released in Japan on November 1, 1996. A typical disc held about 4.7GB, and it became a common format for films and shows. Families also began recording their lives on DVD.

If your home videos and photos are on DVD, we can extract them for you so you can watch and share them again without a disc player.

SD Cards

SD cards were introduced in 1999 by SanDisk, Panasonic (then Matsushita) and Toshiba as an improvement over MultiMediaCards and Memory Sticks. The original cards held up to 2GB, and later generations offered much more. One card could hold up to 2,000 images.

Digital cameras ended the limits of film rolls, and a lot of photos still sit on old SD cards. We extract them for you, so you don't need a card reader or an old camera.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why it makes sense to use a disc and card conversion service

Digital storage let everyday people save their memories, but the devices that store them keep changing. Floppy disks, CDs and DVDs need drives that most computers no longer include, and older SD cards sit forgotten in drawers. The longer you wait, the harder it gets to access them. We extract your photos and files for you, so you don't need any special equipment to get your memories back.

What kinds of discs and cards can you convert?

We extract files from floppy disks, CDs, DVDs and SD cards.

How will I receive my files?

We send your memories back on a flash drive, as a digital download from your account, or both.

What type of box should I ship my discs and cards in?

Use a box, not an envelope. Choose a sturdy, double-walled box, like the kind used for shipping books, and avoid flimsy department store garment boxes and padded envelopes. Make sure your box is filled, even if you need to pad it, with bubble wrap, foam peanuts or crumpled newspaper so your discs and cards can't slide around.

  • Label your discs and cards before we digitize them, legibly and preferably in printed capitals
  • Print three copies of your pre-addressed shipping label: one for the outside of the box, one for inside, and one for your records
  • Estimate your order size when you place your order. An exact count isn't required
  • Ship your box with the designated courier
Do you store my files after my order is complete?

We keep copies of your extracted files for a period of time after your order ships, so we can re-copy them if there's a problem in transit. If you'd like duplicate copies, request them when you place your order.
