What You Get

Micro cassettes are small and more fragile than they look, and they can deteriorate. Digitizing your micro cassette tapes sooner rather than later is the best way to preserve the voices and moments on them. Here's what you get when you convert micro cassette tapes to digital with us.

Clear, high-quality digital audio

Both sides of your micro cassette are captured from beginning to end on a deck and saved as a .wav file. No post-processing is done, so there is no track separation.

Safe & secure, right here in the USA

Every cassette is converted in-house at our Indianapolis lab, never outsourced. From the moment your box arrives, each item is weighed to the gram, and 60 high definition cameras monitor the property. Your original tapes always go back to you.

Tape recovery and repair

Micro cassettes can break or stretch from long periods of disuse or from overuse. If one of yours is damaged, our skilled technicians use professional equipment to attempt a repair, at no extra cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why it makes sense to use an audio cassette to digital conversion service

Audio cassettes hold decades of music, mixtapes, interviews, voice recordings and family memories, and the tape can deteriorate with age. Cassette players are also getting harder to find and keep working, so it's best to convert audio cassette tapes to digital sooner rather than later. ScanCafe does the work in-house in the USA, never outsourced, with superb quality, a safe handling guarantee and industry-beating prices.

What is the length of my audio tape?

Cassette length is usually printed on the tape or its case, for example 60 or 90 minutes in total.

How long will my recording be?

Your recording will be about as long as the original tape.

What is the general process for converting audio cassette tapes to digital?

Our technicians capture each cassette from beginning to end on a deck, both sides, and save it as a .wav file. No post-processing is done, so there is no track separation. Problems from the original recording or the condition of the tape are often beyond the scope of editing.

What if my audio cassette has content on both sides?

We capture both sides of your cassette, from beginning to end.

What type of box should I ship my cassette tapes in?

Use a box, not an envelope. Choose a sturdy, double-walled box, like the kind used for shipping books, and avoid flimsy department store garment boxes and padded envelopes. Make sure your box is filled, even if you need to pad it, with bubble wrap, foam peanuts or crumpled newspaper so your tapes can't slide around.

  • Label your tapes before we digitize them, legibly and preferably in printed capitals
  • Print three copies of your pre-addressed shipping label: one for the outside of the box, one for inside, and one for your records
  • Estimate your order size when you place your order. An exact count isn't required
  • Ship your box with the designated courier
